Wood Flooring in Bromley
We supply and fit wood floors across Bromley and the BR postcodes — Bromley town, Beckenham and West Wickham — from our showroom in Forest Hill, about twenty minutes away. Engineered oak, solid oak, herringbone and chevron, supplied on their own or supplied and laid.
Bromley sits outside the cluster of Victorian terraces we work in most days, and the houses out here are more mixed. That changes how a floor is priced, and it is why we would rather look at what is under your existing floor than quote from a room size alone.
Why we come out before quoting
A floor is priced on what it is laid over, not on the wood. Two houses on the same road can need different work: one with suspended timber over a ventilated void, the next with a concrete slab, a third with both because of an extension.
Nearer the showroom we can drop in twice without it costing anyone anything. Out in the BR postcodes we would rather make one visit count: lift a board, take a moisture reading, measure the levels, and leave you with a figure that does not move later.
What is under the floor decides most of the price
Suspended timber floors are the common case in the older housing. They are usually straightforward, but they move with the seasons, they often hide a sagging joist, and a floor laid over a bouncing board will telegraph it for years.
Concrete slabs are the other half. A slab has to be dry before anything is glued to it, and that is measured rather than guessed. A slab without a damp-proof membrane needs one applied first — a day of work and a line on the quote, not an optional extra.
The practical consequence: the same floor costs different money in two houses a street apart. Anyone pricing your floor without looking under it is guessing, and the guess is usually corrected upward once the work starts.
What decides the cost in a Bromley house
The subfloor
Timber, concrete, or both in one house after an extension. Each needs a different fixing method, sometimes a different underlay, and a junction where the two meet.
Levelling
Old joists sag and old slabs were never poured flat. Levelling compound, packing or a ply overlay is the line on a quote that varies most between two houses on the same street.
Steps, thresholds and stairs
Made from the same boards, these cost more than a bought trim and look like part of the house. Made from a trim, they cost less and look like a repair.
Underfloor heating
Engineered board only, glued down, brought up to temperature slowly over the first week. A solid board over heating will move. Tell us before you choose the floor, not after.
Where we work around Bromley
Bromley, Beckenham, West Wickham, Catford, Sydenham and Crystal Palace are all inside our normal working area, and the showroom in Forest Hill is about twenty minutes from most of the BR postcodes.
The floors there are laid out in full boards rather than sample chips — a 20 cm board looks very different from a small square of the same wood. You can also order free samples and look at them in your own rooms, morning and evening, before deciding.
Frequently Asked Questions from Bromley Customers
Do you actually come out to Bromley, or only supply?
Both. We supply and fit across the BR postcodes ourselves — the same people who measure the job lay the floor. We also supply to customers who have their own fitter, and will say honestly which parts of a job we would want to see first.
Can you give me a price over the phone?
A range, yes. A figure you can rely on, only after someone has seen what is under the existing floor. The difference between the two is usually levelling and damp-proofing, and both are invisible until a board comes up.
My floor is concrete. Can I still have wood?
Yes — engineered board, glued down, once the slab is dry and has a damp-proof membrane. Solid board over concrete is the one combination we would talk you out of.
How long does a floor take to lay?
A ground floor is usually two to four days once the preparation is done. Preparation is the part that varies: a flat, dry subfloor adds nothing, a poor one can add a day or two before anything is laid.
Do I need to be in while you work?
No. Most of our customers leave a key. We cover what we are not working on, clear up at the end of each day, and tell you the evening before if the next day changes anything.
Oak floors we supply
Engineered oak in plank form — the type of floor that suits most houses out this way.
